SoCalBio Voices Industry Concerns to Policy Makers in D.C.

On April 9, SoCalBio joined BIO, 47 regional bioscience industry associations from around the country and over 150 bioscience industry executives to visit Congress and advocate on behalf of the bioscience industry. The SoCalBio team was composed of the following:

  • Ahmed Enany, SoCalBio
  • Dwain Morris-Irvin, StemVax
  • John Isacson, Perkins Coie
  • Kelly Davies, Johnson & Johnson
  • Mitchell Goldstein, Loma Linda University Medical Center
  • Wesley Mizutani, Healthcare Partners

Guided by Roy Zwahlen from BIO, the SoCalBio team did a superb job in educating policy makers about the economic contribution of the bioscience industry throughout the US and in Southern California. Members of the team advocated for an enlightened public policy to:

  • Support innovation commercialization
  • Speed up medical product approval
  • Protect Medicare benefits for the most vulnerable populations
  • Cautioning against rushing patent litigation reform to satisfy the interests of the technology crowd at the expense of the intellectual property-intensive bioscience community

SoCaLBio thanks the following for allowing us to visit their offices on the Hill and giving Us a chance to express industry needs and concerns to them personally or to their staff:

  • Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA)
  • Congresswoman Linda Sanchez (D-38th)
  • Congressman Buck McKeon (R-25th)
  • Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-43rd)
  • Congressman Mark Takano (D-41st)
  • Congressman Tony Cardenas (D-29th)
  • Congressman Adam Schiff (D-28th)
  • Congresswoman Janice Hahn (D-44th)
  • Congressman Brad Sherman (D-30th)
  • Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-24th)
